I was curious about knowing the exact period of canary laying eggs after mating at first. As every canary bird lover would be. Well, here I am going to tell you the exact period of that.

If the canary breeder pair is ready to mate and have an inclination to each other then it is very possible that the breeding pair would lay an egg within 5 to 7 days after mating.

It is very necessary to prepare the breeding pair for mating with a sufficient amount of vitamins and food supplements. The male and female canaries may have a proper diet and enough time to understand each other.

To prepare the canary breeding pair for breeding where you may not face implications and unwanted situations. It is very important that;

  • You may pair the birds in a breeding season where the temperature is suitable for the pair.
  • You may also keep the breeding diet of the canaries in a well-maintained and proper schedule.
  • Male and female canaries should be kept in separate cages to understand each other before mating.
  •  Finally, proper nesting materials and enough size cages for pairing be selected.

So, now you know the exact time period of the canary laying its first egg. After laying the first egg in a week, you will notice that the female will still be mating with the male canary for the next 2 days. So, it continues laying eggs daily for 4 to 5 days.

Normally female canaries will lay 4 eggs however some female canaries may lay 5 to 6 eggs maximum. But, this happens rarely. 

If you are a beginner and don’t have experience with canary-bird pairing, you may leave the eggs in the nest. 

But, if you are familiar with and can handle eggs gently, it is advised to replace the original fertile eggs with dummy eggs until the last egg is laid. After the last egg is laid, just replace all dummy eggs with the original eggs so that you may have one date/day of hating canary babies.
